Handel’s Messiah was first heard in 1741, and what’ s amazing about this wonderful piece is that it was composed in 24 days. Handel struggled with discouragement and debt while working through this masterpiece, and Christians through the centuries have been the recipients of his efforts. It’s been more than 250 years, and the words and music still inspire its listeners.
Special thanks goes to our sanctuary choir for their dedication and energy in singing this timeless classic. Additional appreciation is due our Minister of Music, Marvin Murphree, for his leadership and coordinating the use of an orchestra, soloists, and guest conductor. We are blessed with inspirational music during this Advent season, and last Sunday night just added to the meaning of this season.
